Animals Asia Celebrates 26 Years with a Historic Rescue of Moon Bear Crescent

This year marks a significant milestone for Animals Asia as we celebrate our 26th anniversary with a heartwarming and urgent rescue mission. Our team swiftly mobilized to save Crescent, a moon bear trapped in a tiny, rusted cage for over twenty years in Vinh Phuc, near the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre. Crescent’s liberation from the bile industry not only marks a new chapter in her life but also signifies a profound shift in local attitudes toward bear bile farming.

A New Dawn for Crescent

Crescent’s rescue underscores the remarkable progress in the fight against bear bile farming. For years, Animals Asia has worked tirelessly to reduce the demand for bear bile by promoting humane alternatives and raising awareness about bear sentience. This relentless advocacy has led to a significant change in community attitudes. Crescent’s owner, recognizing the need for a better life for the bear, voluntarily surrendered her to our care, illustrating a shift towards kindness and compassion.

The owner and her nieces accompanied the rescue team to our world-class sanctuary, demonstrating their commitment to Crescent’s well-being and their support for our mission. Their participation not only marked a personal transformation but also highlighted the collective effort required to end the suffering of bears in captivity.

A Milestone for Our Team

Crescent’s rescue also represents a major milestone for our dedicated team, including Linh (Nola) and Huong, our Vietnamese veterinary and nurse interns. Animals Asia is proud to be the only organization offering a Vietnamese veterinary nurse internship, and it is inspiring to see our interns play a crucial role in such life-changing missions. Their involvement in Crescent’s rescue exemplifies the growing expertise and commitment within our team, contributing to the broader goal of bear conservation.

A Timely Birthday Gift

The timing of Crescent’s rescue could not be more fitting, as it coincides with Animals Asia’s 26th anniversary on Moon Bear Day. This milestone celebration serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of our ongoing efforts. Crescent’s name reflects her journey from captivity to a brighter future, symbolizing the profound difference that compassion and dedicated action can make in the lives of moon bears across Asia.

As Crescent begins her new life in our sanctuary, her story serves as a powerful testament to the importance of every rescue. It reinforces our commitment to creating a world where moon bears and all animals are treated with the respect and care they deserve.

Looking Forward

Crescent’s rescue is not just a celebration of past achievements but also a beacon of hope for the future. Each rescue, each life saved, contributes to the larger vision of a world free from the cruelty of bear bile farming. As we continue our mission, Crescent’s journey will inspire us to keep pushing for change, ensuring that every bear has the opportunity to live a life of safety and dignity.

Thank you for supporting Animals Asia and helping us make a difference. Together, we are building a brighter future, one bear at a time.
