Are ginger and turmeric shots good for you?

The short answer is…YES! But if you want to know a little more about the health benefits of ginger turmeric shots, then read on for a complete breakdown.

Ginger is a powerful medicinal plant, and has been used for centuries to aid in things like nausea and digestion. It contains gingerol, which is a substance that contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Ginger also can help treat chronic indigestion, reduce menstrual pain, and help lower cholesterol levels.

Turmeric is actually in the ginger family as well, but contains a powerful medicinal ingredient: curcumin. This is what gives turmeric it’s yellowish color. Curcumin is anti-inflammatory and can aid in inflammation, help improve memory, and lessen pain from osteoarthritis.

I’ve also included fresh lemon and raw honey in these ginger shots, which bring added benefits. Lemon is high in vitamin C and can also help with digestive issues. Raw honey is antifungal and high in antioxidants.

With all these benefits in mind, it’s a no-brainer: ginger shots with turmeric, lemon, and honey pack a healthy punch.

Ingredients needed

Here’s what you need to make these healthy ginger shots:

ingredients needed for ginger shots
  • Ginger (fresh). The base of this recipe is fresh ginger, and you can typically find it at most major grocery stores and farmer’s markets.
  • Turmeric. I use ground organic turmeric because it’s easier to find, but you can also juice a knob of fresh turmeric if you prefer.
  • Lemon. A squeeze of fresh lemon adds to the zesty flavor of these ginger shots, but is totally optional..
  • Honey (raw). To add a sweetness to these shots, I add a little honey but you can also use maple syrup or leave it out completely. Honey is medicinal, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal, so I think it’s a healthier option.

How to make it

These ginger turmeric shots are made with a juicer (see the tips below for an alternative method), so you’ll want to peel your ginger before juicing. This helps ensure that your juicer does not become clogged– yes, this can happen!

Next, run ginger knobs through the juicer into a glass or measuring cup. Stir in ground turmeric, squeeze in lemon juice, and add honey. Whisk.

Pour into shot glasses or a small glass. Drink up OR share with a friend!
